A basket liner is a removable cloth lining sewn to fit one of our baskets. It keeps clothes and fabric from catching on the weave, protects the basket, and lifts out to carry a load or go in the wash.

No. Liners are optional and sold separately. The liner made for a basket is offered right on that basket's page, and it can also be ordered on its own, at the same time or later.

Each liner is sewn for one basket, or for a few that share a size, and every liner page names the baskets it fits. When you buy a basket, add its liner right on the basket's page. For a basket you already have, order the liner from its own page, since adding it on the basket's page puts another basket in your cart. If you are not sure which basket you have, send us your order number and we will look it up.

100 percent pre-shrunk cotton broadcloth, the same cloth the women sew their own clothes from. There is no plastic in them, and none is waterproof.

Machine wash on a delicate setting in cold water, then air dry or tumble dry on a cool setting. Washed cool, a liner shrinks no more than about 2 to 3 percent, and each one is cut with a little extra room. Hot water or a hot dryer will shrink it more.

It depends on the basket. Some liners have cloth bonnet ties that wrap around the rim or the handles, and others have a sewn-in elastic top that hugs the rim. Either way the liner lifts right out for washing.

The plain liners come in cream, wine, blue and green, and some of the larger ones also come in gray. The Easter baskets have pastel liners too, in pink, purple, yellow and emerald. The colors for each basket show on its liner page.

Old Order Amish women in our community sew them on treadle sewing machines, and each liner has a tag inside with the name of the woman who sewed it.

For a rectangle basket, yes. The custom liner is sewn to the length, width and height you enter, measured on the outside of your basket, from 4 to 32 inches long and wide and 3 to 32 inches tall, with an elastic top. The custom liner is sewn in the rectangle shape only, with no openings for handles. A liner made for one of our baskets is not made to fit a basket from another maker.

A liner made for one of our baskets can be returned like any basket. The custom rectangle liner cannot be returned, because it is sewn to your size alone.

The liner lines the basket, and the cover goes over the bread with an elastic edge to hold the warmth in. Each is sold separately, along with a warming pad that lies under the liner after 3 minutes in the microwave. Only the pad goes in the microwave.

No liner is sewn for the Knitting Basket or The Yarn Barn, which do not need one because the yarn feeds from the center of each skein. None is sewn for the Flower Gathering Basket, Grandma's Sewing Box, the bread boxes, the egg baskets or the stair basket either. A basket with a liner offers it right on its page.

The Square Woven Bread Basket takes a flat cloth instead of a fitted liner: an 18 by 18 inch square of pre-shrunk cotton with finished edges. The slots at the basket's corners hold the cloth in place.
