Amish Cutting Boards

An Amish cutting board from our community is solid maple and black walnut, pieced by hand into a pattern and finished with tung oil. The Checkered Cutting Board sets squares of maple and walnut like a checkerboard, and the Walnut & Maple Cutting Board sets them in diamonds. Each comes in two sizes, 7 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches and 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches, and both are a full inch thick.

They are made by hand in an Amish wood shop in our community, a few at a time. The notify-me signup on each board's page will email you when boards are ready in the Shipping Barn.

The Checkered Cutting Board

The Checkered Cutting Board is solid squares of maple and black walnut in a checkerboard pattern. The 7 1/2 by 11 1/2 inch board is right for slicing bread and laying out cheese, and the 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inch board gives you room to chop and carve.

The Walnut & Maple Cutting Board

The Walnut & Maple Cutting Board sets walnut and maple in a diamond pattern, in the same two sizes and the same full inch of thickness. Because it is real wood, each board has its own grain and depth of contrast.

A finish from tree seeds

Every board is sealed with tung oil, which comes from tree seeds, and the finish goes on in layers, each one left to dry before the next. The pieces are joined with glue that meets CARB Phase 2 and federal TSCA Title VI limits.

Care

There is no seasoning when a board arrives and no oiling schedule after. Wash it by hand and dry it right away. Now and then, rub in a little butcher block conditioner, the kind any lumber yard carries.
