This Amish Baskets handmade Egg Basket is a great accent piece for any decor. Sometimes referred to as a Melon Basket, this medium egg basket is 11 inches across, and this egg basket can hold up to 60 eggs. It is built on two round wood hoops set crosswise: one forms the rim, and the other rises over the top as the handle and runs under the basket as its center rib, so the handle is fixed in place and is part of the frame. The 11 inch height is measured to the top of that handle. Around the hoops the basket is fully woven, rim to rounded bottom, and the eggs settle on either side of the center rib so they do not roll into each other and crack. As Carolyn wrote in her review, "Maybe one really can put all eggs in one basket!" This basket is perfect for many uses beyond the hen house, from a fruit bowl for oranges or avocados to a bread basket for hot rolls, adding greenery, or it can be used as an Easter basket filled with goodies. Plain means no colored trim: every egg basket carries the same warm stain, and on the Wine & Blue and Wine & Green baskets colorful bands of reed are woven into the sides and wrap the handle.
