About This Basket

  • Handcrafted Quality: Handwoven from natural rattan reed and select hardwoods by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
  • Open and Easy to Reach Into: Six inches tall with no lid to lift, so the current project comes out and goes back with one hand. It holds several skeins with the project on top, and hooks, needles and scissors alongside; up to three of the oversized one-pound skeins fit.
  • Leather Carrying Handles: Two genuine leather handles carry it from the couch to the porch to the car, and to knit night.
  • Measures: 17 3/4" x 10" x 6" tall. Contents not included.
  • Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on.
  • Optional Extras: A hand-sewn cloth liner (Cream, Wine, Blue, or Green), a custom lift-off lid, protective feet, the leather Yarn Buddy strap and an engraved solid brass plate are each optional and sold right on this page. Add what you like; the caddy is complete without them.
  • American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.

The Yarn Caddy is the low, open basket of our knitting family, for the knitter or crocheter who keeps one project beside the chair and carries it wherever there is a quiet half hour. "It is the perfect size to hold my yarn and current crochet project," Amy wrote in 2024. Jennifer was "using it within 30 min of getting it," Tamie keeps hers for sock knitting and expects it to become a family heirloom, and Kathleen gave one to a relative who crochets and "was delighted with this beautiful Amish wicker style basket."

It grows with what you add to it. The leather Yarn Buddy strap snaps onto a handle and feeds up to four skeins through its grommets without tangling. The cloth liner gives the small notions a soft lining. The custom lift-off lid closes it up between sessions, and the protective feet lift it off a hardwood floor. For a caddy with sections inside, our friends at Outstanding Crochet designed a divider you can crochet to fit it: the Cutleaf Motif Basket Divider. It is the same size and shape as our Garden Harvest Caddy, and the same lid and liner fit both.

If you want a lid with yarn feed holes and compartments that hold each skein upright, look at the Knitting Basket; the whole family, from the caddy to the 20-inch Yarn Barn, is on the knitting baskets page.

An Old Order Amish family weaves the Yarn Caddy by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our knitting baskets, and the weaver signs it before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout if a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
