About This Basket

  • Handcrafted Quality: A wood tray top with a low woven rail of rattan reed on three sides, open along the front, a leather loop handle at each end, and folding wood legs, built by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the maker.
  • The Size: 24 x 12 inches on top, 13 inches tall with the legs down and 4 1/2 inches with them folded flat underneath, and a little under 6 pounds on the Shipping Barn scale.
  • Legs Down, Legs Up: The legs swing out to stand over your lap in bed or on the sofa, with clearance for your legs underneath, and fold under for carrying, for the coffee table or an ottoman, and for the closet.
  • Measures: 24" x 12" x 13" tall with the legs down; 4 1/2" folded. Breakfast not included.
  • Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on, and on the plain finish the stain takes to each piece of wood in its own way.
  • Optional Extras: An engraved solid brass plate is optional and sold right on this page.
  • American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.

Susan bought it in 2022 for a friend's husband recovering from a stroke: "There is clearance for his legs, the height and size are perfect". Susan B. will "use it every day when I eat my dinner". Laura, in 2025, has owned several trays and is "using it for other things like writing on it and reading my Bible".

Off the bed it is the tray that carries the coffee out to the porch and the table a child works at on the floor: Pamela finds it "great not only for bed trays but for working on the floor or couch"; Joanne, in 2025: "I use it to do crafts also." Darlene: "It is more awesome even than it looks in the picture." Jerilyn, in 2026: "Plenty roomy!" Tami: "The smell of real wood on a product is a rare occurrence these days."

It is made for sitting up in bed, with the top standing 13 inches when the legs are down. Wipe the wood and the woven rail with a damp cloth. The rest of the kitchen pieces, the lazy susans, the recipe box and the casserole carrier, are on the kitchen baskets page.

An Old Order Amish family builds it by hand on the Iowa-Missouri border, in the same community as the rest of our kitchen baskets, and signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free, and rush delivery is offered at checkout when a birthday or Christmas is close. It ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who made it. Like every basket we sell, it carries our lifetime guarantee, and returns are no questions asked.
