This Amish handmade birdhouse is completely functional and will provide a secure home for small songbirds such as wrens, chickadees, titmice, and nuthatches. This handmade birdhouse is hand-woven from rattan reed in a vintage, Amish, decorative cottage design: woven walls under a peaked solid wood roof, a round entrance hole set in a wood diamond, and a wood perch peg below it. The Old Order Amish families in our community weave these decorative wren birdhouses by hand, and their care and attention to detail is evident in this unique vintage cottage birdhouse. The entrance hole is 1 1/8 inches across, sized for small songbirds and small on purpose, since a bigger hole would let predator birds in. This handmade birdhouse features the genuine, vintage Amish feature of a removable bottom that will allow you to easily clean out the old nests from the birdhouse: simply remove the screws in the wood bottom, clean out the old nest, and screw the bottom back on. Mount it solidly on a post, a fence, a tree or a wall; wrens and chickadees nest in a house that holds still and feels secure. You can easily mount this handmade birdhouse on any pole, wall, or tree with the optional mounting bracket, black welded steel with a 10 inch arm that screws into the birdhouse bottom. The mounting bracket includes the screws for attaching the bracket to the birdhouse, so the only part you need will be the 4 screws or bolts needed to attach the bracket onto your mounting location. While this country primitive birdhouse is fully functional, it can also make a wonderful decorative accent indoors to highlight any country, rustic decor, and many owners keep it on a shelf, a mantel or a coffee table, where optional protective feet keep it off the finish. An engraved solid brass plate is optional too, and it goes on the side of the house. As Linda wrote in her review, "Quality wren house the birds will enjoy nesting in!"
