Mom's Apple Crisp
Mrs. Norman Yutzy shared this Apple Crisp recipe from her own kitchen notes. With the apples just about ready to be picked, many women begin exchanging their favorite ways to use the first firm slices of the season. Mrs. Yutzy mentioned that this crisp is one she has made for many years, especially when the early apples are plentiful and there is a desire for something simple that fills the house with a comforting scent. The recipe is straightforward, yet it has a way of feeling special once it comes out of the oven with its tender fruit and golden topping. She wrote the instructions just as she keeps them in her own kitchen, noting that the sweetness can be adjusted depending on the apples at hand. This is the kind of dish that often appears on the table when families gather or when neighbors stop by for a visit. Many Amish women appreciate recipes like this because they come together quickly and make good use of the apples that begin to fill baskets and pantry shelves. Mrs. Yutzy’s Apple Crisp is a gentle reminder of how these shared recipes help keep traditions alive and bring a pleasant touch to everyday meals.
