About This Basket
- Handcrafted Quality: Handwoven by an Old Order Amish family and signed by the weaver who made it. No two baskets are exactly alike.
- Slim, Narrow Footprint: Just 12 inches wide, so it rests on a 12" closet shelf, slides into a 12" cubby, and sits flat under a bench where a regular laundry basket never fits.
- Low Profile, Not a Tower: Most slim hampers are 24 inch tubes. This one stands 11 1/2 inches low, so it tucks under the folding counter or a bench and stays easy to reach.
- Holds a Full Load: About a bushel and a quarter of laundry, roughly 12 gallons, so a complete washer load fits without pressing down.
- Steerhide Leather Handles: Two genuine US steerhide leather handles, hand cut, hand rolled, and riveted on, make carrying a full load easy.
- Stands Square, Will Not Sag or Snag: Woven from thick rattan reed over hardwood posts with a solid wood bottom. It holds its shape fully loaded, and the smooth hand-finished weave will not catch your clothes.
- Optional Lid and Liner: Add the lift-off lid to make it a slim laundry hamper with a lid, and the machine-washable hand-sewn liner to keep delicates off the weave.
- American Heritage: Woven in the USA by Old Order Amish families, signed by hand, and backed by our lifetime guarantee.
Most laundry baskets are built for wide open laundry rooms. This narrow wicker laundry basket is built for everywhere else: the apartment closet, the bathroom corner, the camper, the twelve inches between the washer and the wall. If you have measured a spot and every basket you find is two inches too wide, this is the one that fits, just 12 inches across and shaped like a rectangle, not a sprawl.
There is a second thing the shape does that no slim plastic hamper can. Because it stands 11 1/2 inches low instead of two feet tall, it goes under things and on things: under the bench by the back door, on the closet shelf, in the cubby by the dryer. Fabric slim hampers sag and tip when they are full, and cheap imported wicker splinters and snags clothes. This basket is woven from thick rattan reed over hardwood posts with a solid wood bottom, so it stands square fully loaded, and the genuine steerhide leather handles, hand cut and riveted on by the family, make the trip to the washer an easy one.
It will not spend its whole life doing laundry, either. The same narrow rectangular shape makes it a shoe basket under the entryway bench, a throw and pillow basket beside the couch, a toy catch-all, or a pantry organizer. Customers tell us the same thing about our baskets over and over: they bought one for a job and ended up finding it a second one.
Every basket is handwoven by an Old Order Amish family using patterns handed down for generations, then signed before it leaves the farm. It is built to be passed down, and we back that with a lifetime guarantee. If it will live in the laundry, add the hand-sewn liner to protect delicate fabrics, and the lift-off lid if you want everything out of sight.

Built the Amish Way

Woven on Family Farms
Every basket comes from a family farm in the Heartland, where the workshop sits a few steps from the house and the craft is part of daily life.

Built to Last
The solid wood bottom is cut from furniture-grade layered birch and secured with solid brass nails. A base that will not warp, even after years of use.

Quality Materials
Hardwood poplar posts give each basket its strength, handwoven with natural wickering reed for flexibility and a look no machine can copy.

Signed by the Crafter
Every basket is personally signed by the Amish crafter who made it and arrives with a heartfelt letter from the family.
