Woven and signed byYoder FamilyMeet the familyAbout This Basket
- Handcrafted Quality: Handwoven from natural rattan reed over a solid hardwood bottom, with a hardwood double-hinged lid, wooden legs and a solid wooden handle, by an Old Order Amish family on the Iowa-Missouri border, and signed by the weaver who made it.
- The Box Grandma Had: An old-style sewing box on legs, 18 inches tall, so it stands on the floor beside your chair at an easy reach, with a lid hinged down the middle that opens from either side.
- One Open Box Inside: No dividers and no tray: a whole project, fabric and all, goes in as it is, and comes out the same way. The legs account for part of the 18 inch height; the box itself is 14 1/2 by 13 1/2 inches.
- A Wooden Handle: Solid wood, so the whole box carries to the next room in one hand.
- Measures: 14 1/2" x 13 1/2" x 18" tall on its legs. Contents not included.
- Three Trim Colors: Choose Plain, Wine & Blue, or Wine & Green. The color is woven in as dyed reed, not painted on.
- Optional Extra: An engraved solid brass plate, two lines of up to 22 characters each, is the one option on this page. No liner is made for this box.
- American Heritage: Handwoven in the USA and signed by the Amish weaver who made it. Backed by our lifetime guarantee, with free shipping and no-questions returns on every order.
This is the sewing box people remember from a grandmother's parlor, and the one they buy to become that grandmother. "Awesome basket," Zach wrote in 2025. "Provided as a gift to someone who loves crafts. She mentioned it was a beautiful piece and super high quality." Selicia, in 2023: "The craftsmanship is amazing and I hope to pass this down to my sweet granddaughter some day."
It holds more than it looks. "The basket is large and roomy," Liz wrote in 2024. "I can keep most of my needlework projects inside. I love the craftsmanship and the letter from the family who made it was a great personal touch." Laura leaves hers out: "A beautiful storage piece for my handwork. I love to leave it sitting out." Martha, in 2025: "I love everything about this sewing basket it will be a favored family heirloom."
The lid is hinged down the middle, so either half opens on its own from whichever side you sit; lift one half for the scissors, both for the project. The inside is one open box with no tray, which is the point of it. No liner is made for it, and the finished weave is smooth enough for fabric and thread; if you keep wool in it, the ladies can sew a rectangle liner to its measurements from the custom-size liner page. It is 18 inches tall on its legs, and the legs are part of that height, so measure the spot beside your chair. For a sorted inside, the Vintage Sewing Basket gives every spool a peg; for a lidded box with a drawer, the Large Sewing & Craft Basket; for a round basket at chair height, the Antique Styled Sewing Basket.
This box is woven by hand, the way Old Order Amish families on the Iowa-Missouri border have woven for generations, and the weaver signs the bottom before it leaves the farm. Standard shipping is free; if a birthday or Christmas is close, rush delivery is offered at checkout. Every order ships gift-ready, with no prices in the box, a free gift note at checkout, and a short letter about the family who wove it. It is covered by our lifetime guarantee, and if it is not right, send it back, no questions asked.

Questions about this basket
Built the Amish Way

Woven on Family Farms
Every basket comes from a family farm in the Heartland, where the workshop sits a few steps from the house and the craft is part of daily life.

Built to Last
The solid wood bottom is cut from furniture-grade layered birch and secured with solid brass nails. A base that will not warp, even after years of use.

Quality Materials
Hardwood poplar posts give each basket its strength, handwoven with natural wickering reed for flexibility and a look no machine can copy.

Signed by the Crafter
Every basket is personally signed by the Amish crafter who made it and arrives with a heartfelt letter from the family.
