My Amish friends who make the cedar chests also offer custom made CEDAR WOOD baskets.  As far as I have been able to determine they are the only people making these anywhere.  I've found other cedar based baskets but they have been made with cedar bark as opposed to the actual wood.  The cedar wood baskets are absolutely beautiful and extremely unique high quality baskets.  Because cedar has certain properties that do not allow the same flexibility as conventional basket wood materials some of the handles and the wrap around the rims as well as the edge finish on the base are made with other woods that are more cooperative.  The rim and base accents can be left "in the white" or dyed any common color you care to specify.

The outsides of these baskets are finished but not stained so the natural colors of the cedar can be enjoyed.  The insides are left unfinished so the moth repelling effect of the cedar and a bit of the aroma remain.  If you prefer the baskets can be finish inside also.

Most of the regularly offered basket designs on this web page can be duplicated in premium cedar for roughly double the regular price.  At present orders for cedar baskets will be woven on demand and if they become popular we will start keeping a ready stock of them.
